Consultation on GPhC fees

The GPhC has published a consultation on its proposals for fees from October 2012. They propose a 10% reduction in registrants' fees; other fees, including those for premises, will stay at the current level. Consultation closes 8th May 2012.
Proposals to change Wales Pharmacy Contract

The Welsh Government has issued a consultation on proposals to modernise the 1992 Pharmaceutical Services Regulations (these still apply to Wales; the 2005 regulations only apply to England). Consultation closes on 27th April 2012.
Consultation on HealthWatch membership

The DH has issued a consultation on draft regulations for the membership of HealthWatch England which will be an independent statutory committee of CQC (Care Quality Commission). HealthWatch, and local HealthWatch groups advising Local Authorities, are the latest incarnation of mechanisms for the involvement of patients and the public in the operation and quality of the NHS in England. GPhC consults on standards for registered pharmacies

The GPhC has issued a consultation on draft standards for registered pharmacies. This takes a new outcome-focussed approach within existing legislation. Implementation is planned to commence in Autumn 2012 but there is likely to be a significant transitional phase for existing pharmacies. Consultation closes on 7th May 2012.
Consultation on second PNA regulations

The DH has issued a consultation on a further set of regulations to implement the Health Act 2009 provisions regarding Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments (PNAs). These include removal of three (not "distance selling") of the current exemptions to control of entry, notably the "100 hour exemption". The consultation also covers powers to take remedial action over breach of terms of service and poor performance. Consultation closes 25th January 2012.
3 year rule is dropped

Since 1985 and mutual recognition of EU pharmacists, the UK took advantage of a derogation to prohibit EU pharmacists from becoming the pharmacist "in personal control", later replaced with the Responsible Pharmacist, for a pharmacy which had been established for less than three years. An Order, the Medicines Act 1968 (Pharmacy) Order 2011 SI No 2647 has removed this prohibition from 3rd November 2011.
Directions on Functions of NHS CB Published

The DH has published directions setting out the functions of the proposed NHS Commissioning Board allowing it be established in "shadow form". Subject to the passage of the Health and Social Care Bill, the NHS CB is expected to be fully operational from April 2013.
Consultation on medicines regulations
